Can we talk about vector for a second?
The question of whether Procreate is suitable for professional illustration work comes up regularly, and after four years of using it professionally I can answer it definitively.
Procreate is fully suitable for professional illustration work in these contexts: editorial illustration, book covers, game concept art, character design, storyboard art, and personal commission work. All of these have been done at professional level by working illustrators using Procreate as their primary tool.
Procreate has limitations in these contexts: complex multi-image projects (no native document management across files), print production workflow (limited CMYK support), animation beyond basic flipbooks (better done in dedicated animation software), and any task requiring precise numerical positioning or measurement.
The practical conclusion: if your work is single-image illustration for screen or print and doesn't require complex production workflow, Procreate is a professional tool. If your work involves complex file management, precise production specifications, or animation, you'll need additional tools or a different primary app.
