Content Policy

Last Updated: March 14, 2026

This Content Policy explains the rules that govern what you can post on Comentr and how those rules are enforced. It supplements our Terms of Service, which contain the full legal agreement.

1. Overview

Comentr has a two-layer rule system. System Rules apply everywhere on the platform and cannot be overridden. Community Rules are set by individual community Homeowners and apply only within their communities. Violating System Rules affects your Global Standing; violating Community Rules affects your Local Standing within that community.

2. System Rules

System Rules are immutable, platform-wide rules that every user must follow regardless of which community they are participating in. These rules exist to maintain basic safety and legality across the platform.

No Illegal Content

Do not post content that violates applicable law, including but not limited to content that constitutes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), facilitates terrorism, or promotes illegal activities.

No Spam

Do not post automated spam, malware, phishing links, or commercially deceptive content. Repetitive bulk posting intended to disrupt communities is prohibited.

No Harassment

Do not engage in targeted harassment of individuals. This includes coordinated brigading, doxxing (publishing private information without consent), and sustained campaigns of abuse directed at specific users.

No Impersonation

Do not impersonate other users, moderators, or administrators. Parody and satire accounts must be clearly identifiable as such.

No Vote or Standing Manipulation

Do not exploit multiple accounts to manipulate voting or standing scores. Coordinated inauthentic behavior designed to game the reputation system is prohibited.

No Ban Evasion

Do not circumvent suspensions, bans, or rate limits through alternate accounts or other means.

No Report Abuse

Do not use the reporting system to harass others or flood the moderation queue with bad-faith reports. Your reporting accuracy is tracked via a Reporter Reliability Score; consistently filing false reports will cause your future reports to be de-weighted.

3. Community Rules

Each community on Comentr can define its own set of rules, called House Rules. These are set by the community's Homeowner and enforced by the community's moderators. Community Rules can be stricter than System Rules (e.g., "No Memes", "Spoilers Must Be Tagged") but cannot contradict or weaken them.

When you join a community, review its rules. Violations of Community Rules affect your Local Standing within that community but do not impact your Global Standing unless the violation also breaches a System Rule.

4. Prohibited Behavior

The following actions are prohibited across the entire platform:

  • Engaging in brigading or coordinated harassment.
  • Exploiting multiple accounts to manipulate voting or standing.
  • Posting automated spam or malware.
  • Using the reporting system to harass others.
  • Circumventing suspensions, bans, or rate limits.
  • Impersonating other users, moderators, or administrators.
  • Scraping, crawling, or bulk-downloading content except as permitted by our robots.txt or a written agreement.

5. Content Ownership

You retain ownership of the content you create. By posting on Comentr, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, store, and format your content for the purpose of operating the platform. This license terminates when you delete your content, subject to reasonable caching and backup retention periods.

If you believe content on Comentr infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice. See our Terms of Service for the full procedure.

6. Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates System Rules or Community Rules, use the report button on the content in question. Reports are reviewed by community moderators (for Community Rule violations) or platform administrators (for System Rule violations).

Your reporting history contributes to a Reporter Reliability Score. This score is internal and not publicly visible, but it affects how your reports are prioritized. Users who consistently file accurate, good-faith reports have their reports weighted more heavily. Users who file false or abusive reports may find their reports de-prioritized or ignored.

7. Enforcement

Comentr uses a judicial moderation model designed to prevent abuse of power. Enforcement follows a structured process:

  • Warnings — a moderator may issue a warning for minor or first-time violations.
  • Suspensions — a single moderator can issue a temporary suspension to stop active harm. Suspensions are immediate and short-term.
  • Bans — permanent or long-term bans require a Sanction Case where multiple neutral moderators vote to approve the ban. No single moderator can permanently ban you unilaterally.

Every enforcement action must cite a specific rule. Arbitrary enforcement without a cited rule is a violation of the moderator code of conduct. All moderation actions are recorded in a Public Audit Log for transparency.

8. Appeals

If you believe a moderation action taken against you was unjust, you have the right to appeal. Appeals are filed in the designated Appeals Forum and are reviewed by neutral Jurors or Administrators who were not involved in the original decision.

The appeals process exists to ensure fairness and accountability. Moderators who retaliate against users for filing good-faith appeals are subject to removal from their role.
