What does patina actually protect and what does it just hide?

The original Shelby Cobra is the car that started the aftermarket V8-in-a-lightweight-British-chassis conversation that continues to this day. Carroll Shelby took a failing AC Ace chassis, installed a Ford 260 cubic inch V8, and created a car that could beat European sports cars that cost three times more.

The original cars are beyond the reach of almost every buyer. The reproductions — particularly the well-made ones from established kit manufacturers — provide the Cobra experience at a fraction of the cost. The question isn't whether a reproduction Cobra is as valuable as an original. It isn't. The question is whether building or buying a quality reproduction provides a compelling driving experience. It does.
