My 1966 Mustang fastback restoration thread — starting from bare metal

The 1970 Ford Torino Cobra is the Ford muscle car that most people have forgotten and it doesn't deserve the neglect. The Cobra package offered the 429 Cobra Jet or Super Cobra Jet engine in a fastback body that was designed with Trans-Am racing in mind.

The 429 Super Cobra Jet with the drag pack option was among the most powerful production engines Ford offered for street sale in 1970 — hydraulic lifters, a 375 horsepower rating that was honest, and the available Traction-Lok axle and engine oil cooler for sustained performance use.

The Torino is priced significantly below equivalent Mopar and Chevrolet muscle cars despite offering comparable or superior performance. The Ford community's attention has historically concentrated on the Mustang. The Torino sits in the gap between that attention and where its performance capability would place it.
