The 1968 Mustang fastback: how to spot a genuine GT

The 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 427 is one of the rarest production Corvettes ever built. Approximately 116 were produced across 1967, 1968, and 1969. The 1969 production of 116 units is the largest single-year total.

The L88 option cost $1,032 in 1969, which was a significant premium over a standard Corvette. The option required the M22 rock-crusher four-speed transmission, the J56 heavy-duty brakes, and specific suspension calibration. Ordering it without understanding what it was for resulted in an uncomfortable, difficult-to-drive street car.

Historical research has tracked essentially every L88 ever built. Claims of undocumented L88s are almost certainly VIN fraud. If the history can't be traced, the car isn't an L88.
