Best resource for learning about points?

I want to break down exactly how the overnight bus from Hanoi to Sapa works because there's a lot of conflicting information.

The legitimate operators: Sapa Express and Queen Café Bus are the most consistently reviewed. Book directly from their offices near the Hanoi bus stations or through your hostel for a small markup. The buses leave from My Dinh Bus Station on the west side of the city (metro to My Dinh station, then 5 minutes by taxi).

Departure times: typically 9-10 PM, arriving Sapa around 5-6 AM. The return trip reverses. Journey time is 5-6 hours by the modern road.

The buses: the 'sleeper' configuration means two columns of angled pods, three rows deep on each side. Each pod is wide enough for one person and reclines to roughly 160 degrees. Not flat, but substantially better than a regular bus seat. Bring a light layer — air conditioning runs cold.

Cost: 250,000-350,000 VND ($10-14) depending on the operator and season. This compares favorably to the train (more expensive and slower) and flying (obviously much more expensive).

What to do in Sapa: the trekking infrastructure is excellent. The walking routes to the minority villages (Ta Van, Lao Chai) don't require a guide and cost nothing. The rice terraces are genuinely spectacular in September-October. Budget in Sapa: $25-30/day including a private guesthouse room.
