Training for aesthetics vs training for skills: are they compatible?
Building a Home Calisthenics Setup on a Budget
You don't need a fully equipped gym to make serious progress in bodyweight training. Here's what I think makes a complete home setup at three different price points.
Minimalist ($0-$30): A doorway pull-up bar and enough floor space to extend your arms overhead. This gives you pull-ups, push-up variations, dips (between chairs), and all the floor work you need. You can get very strong with this setup.
Intermediate ($50-$150): Add a pair of gymnastic rings. Rings instantly give you ring push-ups, ring rows, ring dips, ring support holds, and eventually muscle-ups. If I had to pick one piece of equipment beyond a pull-up bar, rings win by a wide margin.
Complete ($150-$250): Add a set of parallettes. These allow L-sits, tuck planches, handstand practice, and push-up variations with much greater wrist comfort than floor training. Low parallettes (~20cm) are most versatile.
The investment that matters most is the consistency you bring to using whatever you have.
