Score tracking apps have replaced the folded-up paper system I used for years. BG Stats is the standard for collection and play history management — it integrates with BGG, handles multiple players, and produces genuinely useful statistics over time. The heat map of plays by month, the BGG ranking correlation to actual plays — these are features I use regularly.

For in-game scoring, Wingspan's app is the best publisher-created companion. The Viticulture companion is also good. For games without official apps, a shared note in a phones is sufficient. The overhead of learning a new scoring app per game is not worth it for most games.

BGG's official app is adequate for collection browsing and rules reference but is not my choice for play logging. BG Stats is the more capable tool for serious play tracking.
