The problem with Pandemic that nobody talks about

Spirit Island's power card selection is the deepest skill layer in the game. The choice between fast and slow powers shapes when your effects resolve in the invader phase. A fast power used to push defenders before an attack resolves differently than a slow power that resolves after the attack. Fast powers that prevent damage are categorically more valuable than slow powers of identical nominal power.

The reclaim mechanic — spending a turn to return your full discard pile to your hand — creates a resource horizon. You have a finite number of activations before you must reclaim. Building toward a reclaim while timing it to coincide with a less threatening board state is the operational layer of Spirit Island strategy.

For players who feel like their powers are not doing enough: check whether you are using fast or slow powers for prevention. Fast prevention is dramatically more effective than slow prevention because it acts before damage occurs. If your spirit has weak fast powers, you may be playing it suboptimally for its power card pool.
