My 2 years journey with Gloomhaven

Gloomhaven's scenario variety is more impressive than I expected entering the campaign. The tactical puzzle is not identical across all scenarios — some require defensive positioning, some require speed, some require specific monster priority. The element system creates different puzzle shapes depending on which enemy abilities appear.

Class development creates the game's long arc. Early retirements reveal simpler class designs. Mid-campaign unlocks introduce more mechanically complex options. Late campaign classes — which I will not name for spoiler reasons — are among the most interesting character designs in dungeon crawling.

For groups concerned about campaign length: 95 scenarios is the maximum possible, not the minimum necessary. A standard playthrough involves roughly 50-60 scenarios with side content included. Groups that focus on the main quest complete the campaign in less time.
