First player tokens: silly or essential?
Pandemic Legacy Season 1 is the game that convinced me legacy games are not a gimmick. The permanence of your decisions, the way the story unfolds as a consequence of your choices rather than scripted inevitability, the moment when you first open a sealed packet and find something you did not expect — all of it works together to create something that feels genuinely unlike any other gaming experience I have had.
I will not spoil specifics but the mid-game revelation changed how my group looked at the entire narrative we had been building. We had named characters, drawn on the board, made decisions we could not undo. The game made those decisions matter in a way that felt earned.
Playing Season 2 was a strange experience — better designed in some ways, stranger and more disorienting in others. I would recommend completing Season 1 first regardless of whether Season 2 interests you. The first season is the more focused experience.
