Is Ticket to Ride worth getting into in 2024?

The question of player count is more important than most game purchasing decisions account for. A game rated brilliant at two players might be a poor experience at five. A game that sings at three might drag at six. BGG player count recommendations are useful but imprecise — they reflect community consensus across diverse groups, not the specific composition of your regular group.

For most regular gaming groups, the sweet spot is three to four players. This is why most eurogames are designed primarily for this range. If your group is consistently six or more, you need to specifically seek games designed for high player counts or commit to table-splitting.

Games that genuinely scale well across their full range: Codenames (2-8+), 7 Wonders (3-7), Sushi Go Party (2-8), Mysterium (2-7). These are genuinely rare — most games have an optimal count that experienced players recognize.
